Being the number one popstar in the world has its perks.
Despite having a pop empire, millions in the bank and a pet pig, Ariana Grande doesn't really have clear sense of style. Her signature "look" of oversized hoodies and thigh highs seems more like a weird attempt to look like a fetishized anime character and let's be honest, even that got old a few years ago. Girl, you can have any designer or brand send you whatever you want for FREE and you insist on this basic shit? Hm. All of this, however, did not stop Givenchy from naming her the new face of the luxury fashion house.
As seen below, the debut line, Arivenchy, (or at least what we've seen) features items like this embroidered top, green suit and statement bag. Very luxury. Very Givenchy.

But the luxurious vibes of this collection is what makes it seem like . . . not a collaboration. Knowing Ari's day-to-day looks, I have a hard time believing she had anything to do with the design of a tweed blazer. It feels more like she's just a model instead of a participant or design aide, or you know, maybe, the FACE of the company. Sorry Ari, your music slaps hard and you have the potential to be an ICONIC figure in pop, but you can't be queen of anything until you starting turning some actual looks.

Futhermore, she didn't really do anything to promote this besides post cryptic pictures on Instagram with unenthusiastic captions. “Honoured to be your girl and wear these looooks," she says. God, I mean, if I'm going to care about a celebrity collab, I want it to feel like they're doing more than just the bare minimum. Just look at Harry Styles and Gucci! They are a match made in heaven--I feel like for a while there we couldn't catch him without a Gucci look. In comparison, her Insta captions don't really have the same effect.
So, are design houses just bidding on celebs at this point? How much thought is going into these processes? Believe me, I am all about celebrity involvement in fashion (thank you Anna Wintour!). But Ariana doesn't get me excited about this collection at all, and isn't that the whole point? We might as well make Britney Spears the face of Comme Des Garçons at the point, because thats how much sense this collection makes.
